I know how much work goes into these usually, so having said that, I congratulate you for how flawless you made everything look. However, other than the brightness of the eye, I really don't think any of the corrections are improvements upon the original picture. Unless the point here was simply to show how drastic these changes can be and what we can do with software nowadays, this doesn't really work as well as it could for several reasons. It depends on personal perference I suppose, but when retouching you have to keep in mind the model's personality and her unique traits. Her freckels on this one I would think are her personal trademark, and taking them completely away is losing a lot of informtion about who she is. Along the same lines, her retouched skin is way too smooth and shows no actual skin texture which makes her seem fake. You have to smooth without making the face rubbery or unnatural, which you can see a little in the lines of her nose which become completely blurred and indistinguishable. It's as if someone took a giant eraser to her nose. Either way its a beautiful picture and I realize how much effort was put into it, but I feel as if the overall effect is not what it should be. The point in retouching is fixing small problems without letting the whole piece get so worked that it doesn't look real anymore. In retouching we try to make adjustments which can be drastic but always look as if they were there naturally from the start. It's like an illusion we try to create so that anyone looking on will not be able to tell the difference between the picture and a real person.
Hi! thank you so much for your comment. I haven't ever studied graphic. It is only an hobby for me. I know that my retouches are not perfect but I hope that with comments and critics I will improve my skills
ps: I know that I have to cure the personal trademarks of the subjects, but in some of my retouches I eliminated them to practice
However I will try to applicate your advices to my next works . byee
Actually I just went to your website. It seems like you have the same problem in all of the ones that are showcased. I think most of the trouble (besides the smooth plastic appearance) is your use of color adjustments and sharpening which make soft warm colors (like the ones in the hair of the picture above) become faded and too sharp, looking almost as if her hair is dead or dying...maybe if these were toned down a bit things would start to look more natural instead of just looking as if these women have applied the world's amount of makeup to their faces...Remember celebrities are "beautiful" because they are able to make it seem as if they have little or no makeup on and are still somehow flawless. The trick is to look as if you're naturally gorgeous, not as if you had to work really hard to cover up all of the little mistakes on your skin...
